Old habits die hard, no matter how long they have been put down.  Here’s the story with music and me.  Before I came to law school, and in fact, college in general, I was a musician and a writer.  I still consider myself a successful musician, but my creative writing has dwindled.  Anyway, about ten years ago I left the music scene hastily, and never really counted on returning.  My band was successful, mostly, and I figured once it was done, that music as a major part of my life would remain dead.  That was the case, until recently, when my musical side reared it’s head and has begun to consume me again.

I left my first band for two reasons.  First, my band mates were drunks and I never wanted to be on that path.  I knew they would keep us from being signed because the problem with musicians who are drunks  is that they require alcohol to play, and if they weren’t able to put their dirty hands on it, the musical moment eluded them.  Eventually, they shut us down because it became tiring to deal with them.  I found out recently that two of the three are currently in jail for drug offenses, and I’m not really suprised.  Anyway, I digress.  The second reason is that I figured out that being a musician in the mid west was not going to pay my bills, at least the bills I wanted to acquire, like a new car, house, ect…

So, lately I have been working on a new project, unnamed as of yet, but I’m patient.  Here’s what I do know:  the guys I’m with seem to have their heads together, unlike most musicians I have worked with before, so this thing just might work.  It feels good, and I am praying that I don’t lose sight of all my goals like I once did when music reared it’s head.  I have a family, law school, and things are working well.  I wonder if Hobos thought everything was going well at one time too?

You seem to have your hands wrapped around everything a law student could hope for: law and real world creativity. Oh to be a law student again!
