Unplugging Slowly, But Certainly
Author: Fat Plaid ShirtI am slowly removing myself from the electronic world, I feel too involved to be involved in life. It’s wierd, but true. I deleted my twitter account today. I’ve been on it for quite a while. I followed a few people, and a few people followed me. But mostly, I found it to be a waste of time. Fun, but useless. I have text, and all of my classmates are on Facebook; therefore, if I need something from a class or have a related question, I can post it, and someone will answer me. I had yet to find anyone use Twitter for this purpose. FB has chat, and during class most of us are on it, also we get on all the time so it’s just convenient. Second, there are so many spam accounts that half the people following me were porn sites or news sites. Besides, the other day, I drove to Long John Silvers and the foot doctor across the street, has a Twitter account, so, that’s stupid and I don’t want to be associated with anything the foot doctor thinks is a good marketing tool. One down, two to go.
I’m still up in the air about deleting FB or Myspace. I have friends on both, some on one, some on the other, some on both. I really like both apps, fb is friendly because it is real time, and I find it more convenient for communication purposes. However, Myspace lets us customize it, and it really is a free and expressive webpage. So, I don’t know whether I will delete either of them, but I have found myself really pull back in the last few weeks because I already know what my friends are doing: studying, poking fun at fellow students, working, eating, napping, writing papers, watching the Office, and everything else we do; they are my friends, we are friends because we do the same things. I love FB but I no longer like being tethered to the electronic world.
Besides, most hobos don’t have blackberrys, and if I ever become one, I don’t want feel like I’m missing out on anything…
